Highlights Of “The World’s Largest Toy Train Collection” Up For Bids At RM's Michigan Fall Classic Car Auction
YPSILANTI, MI September 19, 2004 -- RM Classic Car Productions along with Richard and Linda Kughn, are pleased to announce a third offering from the famed Madison Hardware store in New York City, the world’s largest and oldest Lionel train dealer. More than fifteen tractor-trailer loads of rare and desirable Lionel products were transferred from this historical New York hardware and hobby shop to the Kughn’s downtown Detroit storage building in the late 1980’s.
This special sale features over 1600 lots of collectable toy and model trains, accessories and play sets from America’s premier toy makers such as Lionel, American Flyer, Marx, Gilbert and others. “This is a great opportunity to own a piece of Mr. Kughn’s amazing collection that will certainly make a great investment you can really enjoy,” remarks RM founder Rob Myers. Many of the rarest items in this sale came directly from Mr. Kughn’s private storage room at the Detroit location affectionately known as, “The Cage”.
Some of the interesting highlights from over 1,600 lots include:
· Rare Pre- & Post-War Trains and Accessories - Hundreds of train engines, rolling stock and parts from Lionel, American Flyer, Ives, Williams, KMT, K-Line, ROW Industries and others.
· Lionel Factory Prototypes – Large selection of one-of-a-kind pre-production prototype locomotives, freight and passenger cars and accessories direct from Lionel’s factory floor.
· Collectable Train Sets - Hundreds of complete train sets and accessories in various gauges, most in their original packaging, from America’s legendary toy manufacturers Lionel and American Flyer. Also large selection of toy science kits and construction sets from 1940’s, 50’s & 60’s.
Madison Hardware Collection Part III will be held in conjunction with RM’s Michigan International Fall Classic Car Auction, featuring over 400 classic, sports and muscle cars, held indoors at the Novi Expo Center in Novi, Michigan on September 24, 25, and 26.
